Welcome Home

First, an apology: At SaintAndre.ws we strive to keep up to date as much as we possibly can. Unfortunately, we all are students and are subject to deadlines and busy periods throughout the year. Rest assured, though, we are back and we’re not going anywhere.

Now, to the fun stuff:

Hope everyone’s break was amazing and all that it could be. A lot of people have for the most part, gotten over the fashion shows (scars healing, friendships mending, hangovers finally susbising etc) but there is one thing thats pretty much universally asked: where can we get the music? Well my friends, the time has come to talk of just that. Below is the music from both FS and DW with direct download links. Enjoy this beautiful ear candy and next time someone tells you St. Andrews doesn’t have a music scene, you show them these.

Recently there has been a large increase in mocumentaries about the so-called “yahs” (or “rah” if you’re from South England). And then I chundered everywhere now has a massive following in St. Andrews. My flatmate and I decided we would embrace the trend and dress up for breakfast the morning. As we were leaving, we were told to “have fun on our gap yahs!”

Along those same lines, High Renaissance Man, as I’m told, might as well be a true story. For those who haven’t seen it, here you go:

Still interested? Here’s part 3:

Now to the point of this post: that Tetris remix is SICKKKK.
Here it is for all your listening pleasure:

In Case You Missed It

For those of you that weren’t at the DON’T WALK afterparty, you missed out on one of the best parties of the year. I can’t be objective about my set, but both Matt Gavris’ and Dan Matthew’s sets were absolutely amazing. I would like to single out a couple of songs that I thought made the evening for me.

First we have my favorite song of the night, I’m A Rope(Yuksek Remix) by Tommy Sparks. Matt played this halfway through his set and I was blown away at how wonderful this song is. Everything about it makes me want to get up and dance. Matt hit the goldmine with this one and I’m sure all of you guys will be hearing it in more sets from now on.

Tommy Sparks – I’m A Rope (Yuksek Remix)

Next up is the song that Dan ended his set with, it’s a great mashup of Lil’ Wayne’s “A Milli” and Weezer’s “Say It Ain’t So.” I was quite impressed with Dan using this song to finish up his set. I don’t think I could have thought of anything better to play at the end of the night.

Not to forget FS, but I really enjoyed the music during the show as well. My favorite song of the night was “La Tromba” by Chris Lake And Lys. I love the horns in it and the influences it takes from Soca. This is definitely going to be in my sets in the future.

Chris Lake & Lys – La Tromba

This last song is one we’ve all come to love recently. It’s the Riva Starr Remix of “I Like It” by Malente and it has that classic house sound that never gets old. I love the way the sample teases you over and over again. I hope you guys enjoy all of these tracks as much as we love playing them for you.

Ke$ha – currently having the number 1 iTunes single in the US which, lets be honest, is the only list that matters since its the largest music store in the world – is raking in the money by the second. That being said, that single is just about the most appealing thing to buy in the store. The whole idea of Ke$ha is basically Texts From Last Night put in song form. As if a song about brushing your teeth in a sugary whiskey isn’t enough, a LA resident colloquially named Skeet Skeet has done an electro remix of Ke$ha’s song Tik Tok. Take a listen.

calvinFor those of you who were expecting a live show from Calvin, I’m betting you were all a little disappointed when you found out he wasn’t singing. While there was minimal advertising for the event (not evencept a huge A0 poster outside the union like there was for Sister Bliss last year), what adverts were up did say “DJ SET” on them, so don’t blame the organizers for not telling you, cause they did, you just weren’t looking hard enough.

Beyond that, he did a great job. He got the crowd going (playing some of his own stuff) and for the most part, threw down a really well thought out and put together set including one of our personal favorites, Duck Sauce. So, before you all go ranting about how it wasn’t worth going to see, consider this: no one has ever gotten so many people into really good dance music in this town before. Yes thats right, the music he played was good. There I said it! And for that, I salute Mr. Harris.

Some more ear candy for you all:

I always try to be quite picky with the things that I write about on Saintandre.ws. Frankly, most of the stuff I play in my sets wouldn’t make the cut onto this site, but this is my set-wetdream (setdream?). Anyway, this is a live mix done by VENT at Breakspool 2009. Note that absolutely amazing mixing powerhouse on decks – then appreciate. One of the things that I think gets lost in a lot of beat-matching is subtlety. Sure someone can beat-match ; frankly, in the 21st century, its about as hard as spending £150 on a computer program and spending an hour analyzing all your tracks. The true art in beat matching comes from subtlety: not just matching the beat, but vibe and melody as well. This is something that you can really hear in VENT’s mix. He only mixes another song in when he thinks it would benefit the song. Well done, sir

Finally, one thing I hate about this is the fact that BBC Radio 1 threw their illigit stamp on it half way through. Come on guys, have some advertising decency. Anyways, here it is:

Annie Mac’s Good Taste in Music

Dear loyal readers. Why does Annie Mac have such good taste in music but still manage to suck so much on Radio 1? Apparently one of her favorites at the moment is a wonderful little track from our friend Fake Blood. The song is called “I think I like It” and I absolutely love it.

So this just leaked photo is of the Starfields 09 stage at Craigtoun Country Park (we here at Saintandre.ws have seen the location and it’s completely off the hook). I don’t know what to say other then it’s going to be an awesome night. Everyone covered in glitter and neon, going crazy in front of this stage? I mean, come on. What else is there to say. This stage is epic, and tomorrow night is going to be epic too. From what we can see the Starfields 09 team has done a professionally legit job. Just another heads up from your friends at Saintandre.ws. We’ll see you there.

CHECK THIS

OMG OMG OMG we just got these from Starfields 09. Do you SEEEEE that shit?! Its fucking insane. I wonder how much that must have cost to put together. Probably serious serious cash. I think I’m going to let the photos do the talking for themselves this time.

They’re going to be building 8 more of these:
