Diplo Got Busted

We all know and love Diplo, M.I.A.’s ex-hubby, DJ/Producer extraordinaire, and head of Mad Decent that has given rise to such artists as Major Lazer, DJ Sega, and Buraka Som Sistema. Well, now he got himself arrested in New Jersey.

Uffie has been Deposed as Queen of Club

Amanda Blank
Well, I know what I’m gonna be listening to on repeat for the next month. Amanda Blank, you know, that chick that hangs out with Diplo, Spank Rock, and Major Lazer? Yeah that one has just released what some (me) call THE SICKEST ALBUM OF THE SUMMER. The album is called I Love You which is weird but whatever, I don’t judge books by their cover. I recommend track no.4 Gimme What You Got (feat. Spank Rock). Its a sick beat mashed with Amanda’s uncanny ability to throw down lyrics like the best of them.

To be honest, I heard it wasn’t coming out until September, so I wasn’t on alert for it, but I just came across it on iTunes and oh my god – its like heaven in an album. PA is seriously tearing it up this summer. I’m sure Asher Roth and Amanda Blank are never going to go on tour together, but they really should. Their music fits together so well (Asher’s good stuff, Amanda’s…stuff).

Finally, I think we all admit that this album absolutely answers the question “Who is the queen of club? Uffie or Amanda Blank?” Well Uffie, I’m sorry to say but since you haven’t released a track since 1978 (rough estimate), you loose. All hail Queen Blank (that sounds so bad).

Rye Rye – Growing Up Fast

Did you hear the news? Rye Rye is expecting! Unfortunately, she had to dip out of opening for A-Trak on his most recent 10,000LB Hamburger Tour, and couldn’t play Lollapaloza as she has a child due in October. And to add insult to injury, her boyfriend, Evan Battle, was gunned down a few weeks ago during a drive-by in Baltimore. He was shot 4 times, one of the bullets piercing his spinal cord paralyzing him from the waste down. On the plus side, yet another hipster icon is going to be having a kid to cary on her legacy (M.I.A. paving the way earlier this year). Having played with Rye Rye in the past, I can tell you that she is one tough cookie and I doubt this is the last we’ll be seeing of this one. We’re all with you, Rye Rye! (via washington post)

We Love This KID(DA)

KID(DA)
Seriously, we love this kid. He seems to understand what’s becoming big before just about anyone else. You probably have heard his song “Feel Too Good” and his Anniemac minimix from a while back turned some heads. I’m pretty sure Feel Too Good is a back track for some Skoda or Fiat car commercial. The song is an anthem. Apparently he was scheduled to play this year’s Starfields but it seems to have fallen through as his myspace has nothing about it. His July full length mix features his hand picked tracks from this month as well as some of his personal remixes. Don’t think that this kid(da) is just a production prodigy either. A few months ago, he opened for Fake Blood at Cabaret Voltaire and tore the house down. Mad props. Check the mix here

Lisbon We Go Hard

Press Photo

Rarely do I come across a mixtape I can actually sit through.  The problem comes from the differences between music you’d listen to while, say, updating a blog, and music you’d listen to while dancing in a club (mixtapes rarely seem the former).  This one, however, is perfect.  Electro acts seem to be coming into more and more contact with the bmore club scene.  This tape is a fantastic example of the future of electro.

Manaia, the architect of the mix, draws his roots from Lisbon, Portugal.  According to wikipedia, Lisbon is a sister city of Fairfield, California, and Beijing, China.  This kid clearly knows what he’s doing.  Check the mix here.
