As if this town needed any more beauty, here come the first shoots from FS:X’s campaign. Set somewhere out of town (perhaps a hint as to where the show is gonna be this year?) these photos need no explanation (that being said, I’m gonna give one). Upon first look, these photos, I have to say, are phenomenal. After a while though, they begin to separate themselves in to two groups: perfect or rushed. The first photo – the one of the girl on the bottom of that industrial looking slide – is EPIC and I can absolutely see why FS:X choose to use that as the cover for their magazine. Some of the other photos – the jump rope one especially – are also so well done – it looks like they spent a lot of time putting together these photos both composition wise and technically. Some of the others, though, seem rushed. One I’m thinking of in particular is the photo of the three models against the wall. Its as though the shutter speed was too slow for the light levels – something that could’ve easily been resolved. It just feels hurried. Above all else, however, these photos display how original and professional this fashion show can be. I am definately looking forward to this show, wherever it may be.

“Delicious, debauched, depraved seduction” says the press release for what is set out to be a truly different and imaginative experience. Set amongst smoke screens, white silk and champagne this truly controversial event will definitely be one for your diaries! The second coming is soon to be upon us this February, and it is going to be taking the form of an interactive show and party. Expect a lot of drama full of black comedy, a dollop of pounding techno, and some filthy Galliano inspired costumes.
Look out for updates around town…what’s that I hear…a procession?
The iGod is coming.

I’m excited about Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland because it will surely be both an over the top extravaganza of the disturbing and creepy and an inspiration for all kinds of artistic endeavors. Clearly, Printemps in Paris (ridiculously fun if you ever have the change to shop there) thinks so too. The have commissioned Christopher Kane, Alexander McQueen, Martin Margiela, and Ann Demeulemeester to design a fanciful Alice themed window display to look out on the Paris streets during the opening of the movie and Paris Fashion Week this February. Well there’s simply no way Primtemps could have chosen more fitting designers, you’ve got girly Kane, do-whatever-I-want McQueen, moody Demeulemeester, and Margiela, “Fashion’s Invisible Man” (we couldn’t even find a good picture).

Plus the February opening of all of this just seems so ideal. We’re expecting a wonderfully macabre yet romantic creation from the four, maybe adding something of a new flavor to Valentine’s Day. I just hope one of them designs a lovely, ridiculous, extravagant little blue dress. Here’s a medley of some of the four designers looks which just make us super excited for all the freaky love Alice in Wonderland is sure to bring.

So last night was the Don’t Walk launch party, and two nights prior was the GIG’s Stocks & Bondage party: two events that we expected would present a fantastic environment to test personal style boundaries. I mean, Stocks & Bondage’s “men in suits, ladies in leather” dress code seemed very inspirational (we were shamelessly excited to experiment with lots of black leather, a material that doesn’t have much place in our everyday wardrobe). And though for a while most people didn’t really know what to wear to the Don’t Walk launch, we were betting that it would give us a chance to sight some new silhouettes and inventive outfits.
It’s not that everyone didn’t look good. Everyone looked amazing on both nights, especially a lot of the guys at GIG who were wearing suits that must have been tailored specifically for them (there’s nothing quite like a man in a really nice suit, is there?). And a couple girls did wear some very, well, adventurous bondage inspired pieces. But mostly everyone just wore something black. Black, black, black. At Dont Walk as well (and we know that was the staff’s dress code, but everyone else found out beforehand, and likewise arrived in the world’s most slimming color). One girl had some spacey sort of ruffled sleeves that were nice, and every single sleeved mini dress was more flattering and pretty than the last, but it was just…there was just so. much. black. It does have to be said that Dont Walk’s african safari-esque photos were very lovely. So why didn’t they work off of that somehow? Maybe they didn’t want it to look like another Bongo Ball or be too similar to Refee Afrique’s launch party (this Saturday). And why didn’t everyone go all out for GIG? Maybe it was too rainy, or there have been too many themed events lately, or it was the basic fact that most girls in St. Andrews don’t deal with much form fitting black leather beyond a pair of boots or two. Maybe that’s a good thing.
Two good nights, with lovely environments and lovely people, but what wouldn’t we have done for a little bit of color, and maybe a small serving of drama?

Another dress up night is upon us, at least if you have decided to attend Stocks and Bondage. Just thought I’d put up some photos that made me think of the night. The Top Picture is from Bordelle’s S/S10 line (found via, style bubble), and the bottom is a scene from Wall Street (Oliver Stone, 1987, USA). I’ll let you know if I see something interesting there!
P.s. I especially like the cuffs on the woman!
