Just Bongod

Not sure whether its the 3 day Halloween party that has just barely ended or Bongo Ball the night before but I feel like my week is just now starting. I’m pretty sure its Bongo Ball.

For those who don’t know, Bongo is an event thats only been around for a few years but has somehow solidified a reputation as one of the best and, more importantly, unique nights of the year. I’m not saying it was perfect, Bongo is never perfect. Thats part of its charm though. It has the distinct ability to fall short in certain areas and yet somehow, perhaps its the incredibly dedicated community that organizes it, the sense of joy within that old airplane hangar when you arrive is always palpable year after year.

Don’t Walk Launch Party

The level of shenanigans was extremely high at the Don’t Walk launch party. The Rocca is one of the best venues I’ve had the pleasure of playing in a while. It’s just a shame they wouldn’t let us blast the music. Our faithful photographers were there to catch all the action.

Charity Opening Ball – Mr. Hudson’s Last Stand

The Charity Opening ball talk that I’ve heard since the event has been a shmorgishborg of both positive and negative reviews. Two things people have been saying most: 1: John the Evangelist and Bring Back The Planes rocked it. 2. Mr Hudson was kind of a let down. I think they have a point. People came to see Mr. Hudson and either left before he came on or only saw him for half an hour maximum. What ended up happening is The Planes played for an hour, John played for two then Mr. Hudson went on for what was supposed to be an hour but turned into roughly half an hour once he hit the stage. Then he just had his DJ finish off the night. I can’t say I was upset by the decision as I was in love with the music his DJ choose the play – mostly jungle and dubstep. I can’t, unfortunately, say that the rest of the crowd was enjoying it as much as I was. They came to see Mr. Hudson and left after a half an hour of london’s finest. This wasn’t the KK’s fault and I don’t think there was anything they could have done that would have changed the outcome except not book him in the first place. Yet frankly, I think they made a good choice in Mr. Hudson – top 40. artist signed to Kanye’s record label and for a decent price. You would have to be crazy not to book him. After the night ended, I had a short chat Hudson. It went something like this:

Me to Mr. Hudson’s DJ: “Dude great set! It was sick!”
Hudson’s DJ: “Hey thanks a lot man!”
Mr. Hudson: “What about me?”

Disappointing, Mr. Hudson, Disappointing.

Happy Birthday Elise

Turns out that cheap tables aren’t that sturdy. All in all, I think the moral of this story is that grown men shouldn’t be dancing on tables in the first place.
Happy birthday elise!

Starfields Wrap-up No.1

There are some sick youtube clips of the most recent starfields now available. I have to say, well done Northern Light for that massive 9 meter 2 ton structure. The DJ’s loved it and I’m sure the crowd did as well.

Check it out:

For those of you who weren’t convinced already to go to the opening ball, lemme give you a push in the right direction. Mr. Hudson is playing the opening ball. He had that one hit over the summer called “Supernova.” That was alright. Here’s where he gets some props from me though: he asked our favorite – Rusko – to do a remix of his newest single “White Lies.” You can tell he respects music and for me, thats the most important thing. I’m down to support artists who support new artists. End of story.

Dress Up And We’ll Watch: Starfields09

So a few days ago before Starfields we told you guys that we’d be at the event taking pictures of outfits we felt were ravey but also unique. Everyone looked great, and we took tons of pictures. Several girls mixed the studded rocker trends in with their brights, and others accented a very “them” outfit with one Starfields-esque accent, like a neon hairbow or two. We were especially into people who mixed several textures into their outfits. No one wore heels, everyone was wearing some kind of sneaker or flat (great choice because the ground would have been a bitch to walk on in anything other).

We felt that the fresher above went a little bit beyond just the neon yellow leggings and crazy face paint. We loved her rhinestone studded bandeaux, and the sheer royal blue chiffon racer-back top she put over it. She also wore shiny leggings, charcoaly grey leg warmers, and some pretty cool sneakers, with piled on bracelets and loose hair.

Starfields09 Look 1

Well there’s all your usual rave gear (we know you have it because you go to St. Andrews): neon spandex leggings, hot pink and yellow nail polish, those shirts in bright colors with day-glow graphics on them, and those beloved shutter shades. But what should we do a bit differently for this year? We think the hardest thing to achieve with rave gear is maintaining your own style. We all know it’s pretty easy to pull on a bright t-shirt dress and paint your nails hot pink. But then you’re just another girl at the bar. And while some raves are all about being part of that sea of pulsing white t-shirts, we go to St. Andrews, and we crave a little more than typical.

So we propose a opportunity. Saintandre.ws is going to be at Starfields 09 with our cameras at the ready to capture some of the coolest, most individual looks at the event. Dress up and we’ll watch. See you there!

P.s. Word of advice: no heals, there are holes in the ground; and no Wellies, do you ever really dance in them anyway?

Catch, Etc.

Catch

People (including me) have been wondering about Catch this year, and it’s opening nights. The answer is that Catch is going to be open for special events, like the Catch 20:20 party this friday (free raging bull w/ the 8 pound ticket and 3 DJs apparently). Luckily it’s going to be open for Bassface and Dirty Disco events as well, and those will be advertised later. If you didn’t go to a Bassface or Dirty Disco event last year, you pretty much must check it out. There’s nothing like the Catch Bar crammed full of people and lots of pounding bass to get you crazied (also, our very own Dan Matthews is the resident DJ of Bassface, although I’m sure you know that by now).

Apparently the reason for this spec-event-only change is because they opened Catch 3 weeks before last years graduation and hoped it would survive over the summer on golfer/tourist money. And it didn’t happen. Sort of sad. But I’m sure plenty of events will use Catch as their venue, so we’ll be there often.
