Movie Night

Whatever you think about it, most of us gave a certain amount of our hearts to the 2006 film adaptation of Lauren Weisberger’s The Devil Wears Prada, starring as everyone knows, Anne Hathaway and her trademark pretending-to-be-ugly-but-can’t-because-she’s-actually-Anne-Hathaway-but-still-awkward-girl-turned-fashiony character (c’mon she’s a one trick pony). And it was pretty apparent that the character of Miranda Priestly was a pretty straightforward mimic of the real life editor-in-chief of Vogue, Anna Wintour.
Anna Wintour is kind of legendary. She’s just so icy and stiff behind that frosty bob and large sunglasses. She is intense and crisp, with this sort of indefinable accent from some indefinable place. And she just seems like a huge bitch. But we’ve always loved her because her elegance is undeniable, and her authority seems like it will never end. And of course she’s piloted Vogue for the past 20 years. Well. A firm hand is a loving hand.
R. J. Cutler’s new documentary film, The September Issue addresses the glamourous mystery surrounding Wintour, and tries to almost find the similarities between The Devil Wears Prada and her actual life. Anyway it opens in theatres in the U.S. August 28th. Go see it. The anticipation is killing us. Trailer below.
